To meet the countrywide distribution demands of the UK’s leading supermarket chain, Bolton-based company Oakwoods Distribution needed to dramatically increase their storage capacity, without increasing their facility’s footprint.
Space was tight so Storage Concepts’ expert consultants submitted designs and working proposals that would increase Oakwoods’ capacity through the intelligent use of mezzanine floors.
Working closely with Oakwoods’ main building contractors, we installed a 1710 sq m (18,400 sq ft) mezzanine with a Knapp automation system cleverly carried on the underside. Static shelving maximised the floor area of the mezzanine and the whole was enclosed by insulated panels. Products could now be stored within a constant, specified temperature range regardless of the season, thanks to air conditioning comfort cooling.
Next, Storage Concepts installed a Reserve Pharmacy Store capable of a handling pallets. This 27 m long x 7 m deep x 15.5 m high area was also encased in an efficient insulated panelling system to provide constant comfort cooling, even in extreme summer temperatures.
The total package included all electrical and sprinkler systems and was finished on budget, to a fast track completion programme. Giving bags more storage for Tesco.
